We have heard and seen two Bluetooth versions like 4.0 and 4.1. But, now The Bluetooth Special Interest Group ( SIG ) has also announced the complete specification of the upcoming Bluetooth version 4.2 on Wednesday, 3 December, 2014. The new specification contain plenty of new features which are more improved and amazing as compare to the previous all. The Group has shared some details about this new version that it promises to bring better improvements regarding to privacy controls, battery conservation and increase data transferring speed.
One of the special specific features of the updated Bluetooth version 4.2 is that, it would connect directly to the internet through IPv6 and 6LoWPAN. It will transfer the data more than 2.5 times faster than the previous versions between smart phone devices. We are really thankful that it has increased the capacity of Bluetooth Smart Packets which can now contain ten times more data than before. The group has claimed that this version will reduce battery consumption and will prevent the transmission errors with pretty efficient connectivity. This will surely increase the battery life of your Smartphones.
Interestingly, the privacy control — other improvement to the new specification, let the users to decide whom to allow to be connected with Bluetooth device. Means, the Bluetooth Beacons will not attempt or track your device until you give them permission to do. This will prevent tracking your devices by Beacons as well as prevent the individuals from being tracked through your Bluetooth devices. The Internet Protocol Support Profile (IPSP) will allow the smart devices to access internet through IPv6 and 6LoWPAN.
We have not got any clarification about this, if the new Bluetooth version 4.2 will be compatible on the existing devices which still support Bluetooth 4.0 or not. The Bluetooth version 4.0 is most commonly used in majority of the devices. The new specification is available now except the direct internet access feature because it will be available in the coming month.
