“Maps will now be updated with new live traffic alerts to help avoid jams while traveling to their holiday weekend. When a user inputs their destination details, they will get an explanation of upcoming traffic conditions that helps them identify the quickest route.” According to Google:

The new update will work in two important ways. First, when you’ll select any of your desired destination, Maps will not only calculates a main route for you, but it will also give you information about unfavorable conditions or event on the said path. Then, it will frequently suggest an alternative route. You are able to do this all while driving, you’ll get a similar situation.

This new update actually comes exactly on the time for Memorial Day, that is a public holiday, and a huge number of people use to do some traveling. So, if you are fortunately living in the US and looking for a better travelling suggestions, then it’ll help you in the best way.

However, Google also took a look at the top five Google Maps destinations searched in five cities over Memorial Day weekend in the last year, 2014. The cities included were San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and New York City.

One thing is to be noted, this is not yet clear if the users all over the world will be able to have this new update or it is only for those users living in the US.
